sony burano x SEA LEGACY

“The Knowing," directed by Emmanuel Lubezki and featuring Paul Nicklen and Christina Mittermeier, co-founders of Sea Legacy, is a short film shot on the Sony Burano. The film highlights our fragile natural world and raises awareness for the protection of wild places and endangered Southern Right whales.

As the 1st Assistant Director, I managed shoot logistics, coordinated talent and camera crews, collaborated closely with the director, producer (Scott Portelli) and talent to achieve the desired shots, and scouted locations. This project involved complex marine logistics, advanced drone operations, and multiple shooting teams. Organisation, clear preparation, and meticulous planning were crucial. Working with marine wildlife, coordinating vessels and 4WDs, and managing teams on both land and water simultaneously, I leveraged my knowledge of marine life and operations. The determination of the crew and myself ensured the success of the shoot, resulting in a powerful film that emphasises the importance of protecting our natural world.

O’neilL WOMENS

I produced the short film “Where the Desert Meets the Ocean” for O’Neill Women’s summer campaign, featuring surfer and model Imogen Caldwell. The shoot took place in a remote location in Western Australia, necessitating meticulous pre-shoot preparation, including gear, crew, logistics, and weather considerations. The project involved multiple videographers and a stills photographer, covering various activities both above and below water, such as surfing, fishing, free diving, campfire cook-ups, and interviews. Given the short timeframe of just a few days, it was crucial to prioritize the needs of the videographers, photographer, and talent in the planning process. The challenging summer weather and swell demanded daily organization and a well-prepared shoot itinerary to capture all the desired shots. My understanding of marine logistics and experience in the fashion industry were key to the success of this campaign. The result was a stunning portrayal of Imogen and her home at the Bluff, beautifully captured and celebrated in the film.

GWN 7 Tourism AWARDs

“Nyinggulu” is a short film I produced, directed, and edited for the GWN7 Tourism Awards 2023, supporting the Exmouth Shire's submission, which won the small tourism town category. This film showcases the natural beauty of Nyinggulu and the rich indigenous culture of the region, featuring traditional owner Hazel Walgar. The film includes an interview with Hazel and stock footage from Andre Rerekura and myself, creating a heartfelt depiction of Nyinggulu's natural paradise and promoting a conservation message to protect the area.

The production required extensive planning, including marine logistics, storyboarding, organising talent, and managing gear and crew in remote locations, with careful consideration of weather conditions. Alongside Terra Australis, we have produced the Exmouth Shire's submissions for the last three tourism awards, winning gold in the small town category for 2022, 2023, and 2024. These achievements have earned us a place in the GWN7 Hall of Fame.
